At Waxi Taxi, our salon is about more than just hair removal services. We’re dedicated to giving back to the community. One of the many ways we give back is through providing internship opportunities for high school students who are interested in the beauty industry.
I started as a shampoo girl myself, in a little salon called Laura & Co. Hair Design. I even practiced doing hair on some brave friends in my kitchen. While I may not have become a hair stylist, my time working in salons set me on an unexpected and fulfilling journey that ultimately led me to the world of waxing. Now, fifteen years and three locations later, I am dedicated to providing the same opportunities and guidance for students interested in the industry.
Creating Opportunities for the Next Generation
Gaining real-world experience is vital, especially in this industry. Participating in an internship at Waxi Taxi allows students to enter a professional environment and observe skilled waxing specialists. By working in a salon, not only will students gain organizational skills and professionalism, but they will also get a clear understanding of what being a waxing specialist entails. This will allow them to make an educated decision on whether or not this field is something they want to pursue.

As someone whose skillset and career path were constantly evolving, I understand the value of gaining hands-on experience in a salon. Deciding what career to pursue as a high school student is a big decision and also very intimidating. Our team of waxing specialists may have experience in various areas, such as waxing, facials, hair care, and other aspects of the beauty industry. Working in a waxing salon can help students clarify their career aspirations and even gain insight into other fields.
For many high school students, this may be their first job or their first time working in a salon setting. Regardless of whether or not they decide to pursue a career in the beauty industry, working in a salon provides the opportunity for students to gain transferable soft skills, such as communication, organization, taking initiative, and professionalism. These experiences not only enrich their resumes but also equip them with valuable life skills.
