It’s time for one of our favorite blog posts of the month, our Business Besties! This month, we are highlighting some of our great besties in the art scene here in Northwest Indiana. Northwest Indiana is home to so many great artists, galleries, art spaces, art classes, and performative art, among other things. So, let this month’s post be a starting guide to your arts roadmap across Northwest Indiana, but don’t stop there. Support our local arts scene however you can. There are arts for everyone in our communities.
Chesterton:
Chesterton Arts Center:
What began in the 1960s by a collection of local artists, the Chesterton Arts Center, or CAC as it is often referred to, has been a mainstay in the arts community of Northwest Indiana since its inception. Their mission guides their organization in enriching the cultural landscape and ensuring art is accessible to everyone. The CAC has grown over the years and now has a membership of over 350. The CAC offers a rich selection of art classes, an art space, and so much more. The first weekend in August, they host their annual Art Fair featuring 100+ artists, live musicals, family activities, and more! This organization is truly a treasure in our community.

Three Moon Fiberworks:
Housed in the old Chesterton post office, this local business is a destination for fiber fans and artists from around the region. Three Moon Fiberworks specializes in fibers (yarn) for weavers, fiber artists, and knitters alike. They also offer classes in many different fiber arts. Their unique collection of fibres from cotton, wool, silk, hemp, bamboo, and more truly makes them a destination for fiber enthusiasts. With so few fiber stores left in our area, Three Moon Fiberworks is truly a gem.

Crown Point:

This Crown Point business brings a fun social aspect to creating art, from private events to weekly paint and sip gatherings. This fun, creative space caters to an artistic experience to be enjoyed with friends and family. They also offer an at-home private party package that will bring the party to you. Liubakka Studio:
This arts center, located in Crown Point, has been living its mission to teach, exhibit, promote, and discover local artists for more than 40 years. They teach digital art, animation, and much more, catering to family lessons and homeschool students. They are also available for private lessons. This studio is a treasure trove of learning opportunities for the artist in your life.

Michigan City:
The Lubeznik Center for the Arts:
This gallery is a crown jewel in the Northwest Indiana Arts scene. This world-class gallery acts as an art hub for the community. From the gallery space that would rival any big city exhibition presentation to a vast selection of classes for artists of all ages, the Lubeznik Center truly lives up to its mission as a hub of learning and art education in our community. Mid-August they hold their annual arts festival, make note! Also, did you know, their space is available to rent for special events as well?! For more than 40 years, the Lubeznik Center has been the beating heart of the arts scene in Michigan City and beyond.

The Depot Museum & Art Gallery (Beverly Shores):
Just a ten-minute drive from Michigan City, this small but mighty art space has welcomed artists from around the world. Housed in a historic South Shore Trainline Station and recently added to the Indiana Landmarks list, this gallery, while not only charming, is a plus for history buffs and rail enthusiasts as well. The Depot is open from May through mid-December and exhibits several shows per season. Their annual 5×5 Fundraiser every May is a can’t-miss event! 5×5 original artworks, created by local artists, sell for $55 and benefit the Beverly Shores Museum and Art Gallery. This is an incredibly popular event. This charming gallery is a must-visit.

We are so lucky to have such a robust arts scene here in Northwest Indiana, and while we were only able to scratch the very surface of it in our region, we encourage you to explore these wonderful spaces and beyond. From symphony to ballet, art galleries to theater, there is something for everyone right here in Northwest Indiana.
