You booked your appointment a month ago, let your hair grow out, and cleared your calendar…and then, you start your period. If you’ve ever been in this situation, we’re here to tell you that it happens! Although you may be tempted to cancel your appointment, the good news is that you can still get waxed on your period.
At Waxi Taxi, we understand that your monthly cycle and your schedule don’t always align. However, as long as you’re comfortable and taking some precautions, getting your period is no reason to cancel your appointment. This blog takes a deep dive into everything you need to know while getting waxed during your cycle.
A Safe Space
Our salon is a safe space for everyone, period! At Waxi Taxi, our specialists are trained professionals who strive to provide a safe and comforting environment for all clients. We understand that it may be nerve-racking, but there’s no reason to feel embarrassed when getting waxed during your cycle. Having a period is completely natural.
Periods are nothing to be ashamed of, and they’ll never make you any less welcome at your appointment. Our goal is to make you feel comfortable and cared for, cycle or no cycle! There’s no reason to feel shameful or awkward. You’re in good hands!
Sensitivity
While you’re on your period, your body is naturally more sensitive, which means your pain tolerance can sometimes be lower. Your wax may be slightly more painful as a result of this. If you’re new to waxing or just scheduled your first Brazilian, we recommend waiting until after your period to ensure the most comfortable wax possible. Heightened sensitivity can make your first wax more intense and painful than it should be.
Flow
Although we can absolutely wax you while you’re on your period, there are a few things to keep in mind. Each body, cycle, and person is different. If you’re experiencing a heavy flow, it may be best to wait a few days before getting your wax. A heavier flow can make you more uncomfortable during the service. We recommend getting waxed on the lighter days of your cycle to ensure the best experience possible.
Menstrual Products
Everybody is different, and we understand that period products that work for you may not work for someone else. However, we do recommend using either a tampon or a menstrual cup during your appointment. This ensures an easy, efficient wax for both you and your specialist, and ensures the area is clean and dry. If you’re uncomfortable using these products, it may be best to reschedule your appointment until after your period.
Tips For A Comfortable Experience
- Take A Pain Reliever-Taking a pain reliever 30 minutes before your appointment can help reduce sensitivity during your appointment.
- Avoid Caffeine-As tempting as it may be to grab an iced coffee before your wax, drinking caffeine can make you more sensitive.
- Communicate With Your Specialist-It’s important to tell your waxer that you’re on your cycle. This way, they can make adjustments to ensure you’re comfortable!
The Bottom Line
If your period shows up before your waxing appointment, there’s no need to cancel. Our specialists will ensure that you have the most comfortable wax possible, leaving you feeling confident and cared for. Your experience is what matters most to our staff. Whether you keep your appointment or reschedule it, know that we’re here to provide a safe space; no judgment or awkwardness, just a professional wax, a shame-free environment, and understanding.
