Plus, with wine and pizza as tasty as these spots, who can resist? I know we sure can’t! Stay tuned for all of our favorite locally-owned pizzerias and wineries in Northwest Indiana.
Crown Point
Battista’s Artisan Pizzeria
This family-owned pizzeria is a local classic in Crown Point. Located in the heart of the historic downtown square, this spot is a must-visit! With artisanal pizza, weekly specials, and a staff with a true passion for what they do, it’s easy to see why Battista’s is a go-to for so many Crown Point locals (and us, too)! Chesterton
Val’s Famous Pizza and Grinders
This local gem crafts delicious classics with a focus on fresh ingredients and a super cozy ambiance. Although their pizza is delicious, they also offer a variety of other dishes, like pasta, salads, and grinders! This is a must-visit for foodies. Long-time owner Kevin is a cornerstone of the Duneland community. He first worked at Val’s in high school and eventually purchased the business. He has employed just about every high schooler in town, including my very own daughter Camille! Kevin volunteers his time, talent (and pizza) generously in the Chesterton area.

Running Vines Winery
Running Vines Winery is family-owned and operated and located in downtown Chesterton. Their winery offers the perfect place to sip, stay, and chat! Built on a love of wine, this family-owned business has a passion for people. They love nothing more than sharing their award-winning wine with their community and their customers. Fun fact: our first office was located just down the street from our current Chesterton location, in the Main Street building. Owner Nicki Caylor opened Running Vines’ first location in that same building. Everyone definitely enjoyed a glass of wine before coming upstairs to visit The Waxi Taxi!

Michigan City
South Shore Ovenworks
If you like trying new and unique flavors, this is the place to visit! South Shore Ovenworks has a variety of pizzas with unique flavors, thick crust, and a lot of heart. Their craft pizza ranges from classics such as cheese and pepperoni to something more adventurous, like fig, goat cheese, bacon, and charred red onion. Definitely worth a visit for unique and craft pizza lovers! You can find them posted up in the parking lot on Rt 12 in Beverly Shores, fittingly right near the South Shore train depot! They also offer catering and on-site service for parties and events.

Shady Creek Winery
This winery is more than just a winery; it is an experience! They pride themselves on their casual, order-at-the-door setup, which is perfect for a relaxed lunch or chill evening. Shady Creek’s menu features fresh, locally sourced dishes, with a seasonal selection of shareables and
small bites. I once lived just down the street from Shady Creek and was able to watch the amazing transformation of an old barn and overgrown property into what it is today. What started small has grown into a truly remarkable restaurant and winery.
