Waxi Taxi here! Back at it again with another blog post. See what we did there? Back waxing is one of our more underrated waxing services. It might not be the first thing you book when you’re scheduling your appointment, but more and more people are starting to get this service done, and yes, it is for both men and women! If you’re not feeling the fuzz, back waxing is a total game-changer. If you want to try it out, learn more, or are just curious about what the service entails, our guide to back waxing will cover all the basics, so stay tuned!
A Little Back-ground
How many back puns can we get away with before you stop reading? In all seriousness, in the 1960s and 1970s, having a hairy chest and back was very popular for men. Actors such as Burt Reynolds led the way for the male beauty standard. In the 1980s, back waxing was popularized as many men began to want a smooth and muscular aesthetic. In the 2000s, male grooming, or “manscaping” as it was coined, became much more popular and more widely accepted.
Back waxing isn’t just for men, however. In the 1980s and 1990s, back waxing became more popular for women, as Brazilians and an overall desire for hairlessness began trending.
What To Expect
Each client is different, so tolerance for back waxing may vary. However, the back is one of the less sensitive areas on your body. Be sure to exfoliate 1-2 days before your waxing appointment. Your waxing specialist will powder the area to ensure the wax adheres properly. Then, your specialist will apply the wax in sections. Afterwards, our lavender grapeseed oil is applied to the area to calm the skin and reduce irritation. This service takes around fifteen to thirty minutes.
Why Get Your Back Waxed?
Waxing removes hair from the root, ensuring that the hair will not grow back for at least three to six weeks. Shaving only removes hair from the surface, meaning you’ll have to shave and re-shave every one to two days to get that smooth, soft feel. The back is a tricky area to reach, especially if you’re shaving it by yourself. This creates the possibility of missed hair and patchy areas that you won’t experience with back waxing.
Back Waxing Is For Everyone!
At Waxi Taxi, we pride ourselves on being inclusive and body positive. We work hard to ensure our establishment is a safe space for all of our clients. That being said, body hair is never something you should be ashamed of, no matter where it grows or what your gender is. Waxing is genderless regardless of the service! Back waxing isn’t just for men. Although it may be the first thing you think of when you hear back waxing, many women grow back hair as well.
Choosing whether or not to wax your back hair is your choice, and having body hair on your back is not a reflection of your hygiene or femininity.
At the end of the day, having or not having body hair is your choice, and although we love seeing our amazing clients, we’ll always encourage you to do what makes you feel comfortable in your body.
