Our newest employee, Tara Vode, was a long-time client of Waxi Taxi and has now officially joined our team. With an original background in marketing, Tara received her Esthetician’s License from Tricoci University in Chicago. Her training coincided with two of our other specialists, Molly and Analise. All About Tara What was your journey to becoming a waxing specialist? Was there a defining moment that confirmed this was your calling? “I started my career in sales and marketing, but after almost five years, I realized I wasn’t fulfilled and kept feeling pulled toward esthetics. Once I began my training at Tricoci and started working with clients, I knew I had found my place. The defining moment was seeing the confidence on a client’s face after their service. It made me realize this was about so much more than skincare or waxing; it was about helping women feel good in their own skin. I had actually been a client of Jeny’s for years, and when I heard about the opportunity, I was very excited to join her team of incredible women!” Outside of your professional life, what hobbies or interests might surprise your clients to learn about you? “I love all things art and being creative. I also love spending time outdoors with my husband and our Husky, Myka. Hiking, pickleball, tennis, and disc golf are some of my current favorites!” What's a waxing technique or approach you've personally developed that you feel is uniquely yours? “I take pride in creating a calm, reassuring environment. Talking clients through the process, using my attention to detail, and focusing on efficiency while still being gentle. My approach is about blending professionalism with comfort, so clients always feel safe and cared for.” How would your closest friends describe your personality, and how do those traits benefit you as a waxing specialist? “They’d probably say I’m honest, kind-hearted, and love to laugh. Those qualities help me connect with clients on a personal level, build trust quickly, and create a lighthearted, comfortable environment, even during services that might feel intimidating at first.” Client Connections What’s a common client interaction that always makes your day brighter? “When a nervous first-time waxing client tells me after their service, ‘That wasn’t nearly as bad as I thought!’ It never gets old because I know they trusted me to make them feel comfortable.” What’s the most valuable lesson you’ve learned from a challenging client experience? “Patience is everything. Everyone has different comfort levels, and sometimes the best thing you can do is slow down, explain each step, and give reassurance. That’s when you turn a difficult experience into a trusting relationship.” How do your personal values influence how you run your business and interact with clients? “I believe in treating every client with kindness, respect, and honesty. As tempting as it is to get a tan by lying on the beach all day, not wearing sun protection can lead to sunburns. This will leave your skin red and sensitive. Waxing will further irritate already inflamed skin, potentially leading to pain, peeling, and even blisters. To get that desired summer glow, protect your skin by wearing sunscreen and ensure that your skin is ready for your waxing session. Ditch The Razor Shaving is a thing of the past. Although it is convenient, shaving can leave you with nicks, cuts, ingrown hairs, and razor bumps. At Waxi Taxi, we’re able to wax almost every part of your body, leaving you with a smooth, glowy look. Razors have limitations, leaving you with a higher chance of missing a spot and patches of unwanted hair. When using a razor, hair regrowth can happen within 1-2 days. Waxing removes hair from the root, offering longer-lasting results. Most clients notice results for 3-6 weeks, depending on the client and their body. This leads to a much higher risk of infection, especially when spending the day doing all the summer activities you love, like going to the beach, hiking, and swimming. After-care Although you may be tempted to show off your wax, one of the most important parts of achieving glowing summer skin is taking care of your skin after. Immediately after your wax, be sure to avoid touching the area with unwashed hands and apply a cool compress if you are experiencing redness or irritation. Be sure to avoid exercise, swimming, saunas, and hot showers for twenty-four hours after waxing. Wearing loose-fitting clothing is crucial to avoid irritation and redness. Epsom salt baths are a great way to relax and reduce inflammation! Avoid heavy moisturizers on your skin. Lightweight moisturizers, such as coconut and grapeseed oil, are key to keeping your skin glowy and smooth. Within the next few days, be sure to keep your skin hydrated and use alcohol-free moisturizers. Although waxing exfoliates the skin, further exfoliation after your appointment will prevent ingrown hairs. Be sure to wait at least forty-eight hours after your wax before exfoliating. Remember that skin is more susceptible to UV damage after getting waxed. Using a high SPF sunscreen will protect your skin from any damage. They always leave feeling more beautiful, confident, and happy. This month, we wanted to remind our clients that self-care is an integral part of overall wellness. To do that, we have come up with ten wellness tips that we swear by from the perspective of waxing specialists. Exfoliate Not only is exfoliation great for waxing prep, it’s also great for your skin! Exfoliating 1-2 days before your wax will leave you with the perfect base when getting a wax. Exfoliating removes dead skin cells and reduces the chance of ingrown hairs, leaving you with smoother, softer skin! Hydrate Inside and Out Hydration is so important when improving overall wellness. Staying hydrated will improve your mood, keep your skin glowing, and increase energy. Although it’s important to stay hydrated from the inside, it’s important to stay hydrated from the outside as well! Always moisturize your skin to give it that soft, glowy look. Analise is one of our waxing specialists at the location in Chesterton. She joined the Waxi Taxi team in April 2022 as an office assistant. After graduating early from Chesterton High School, she began her journey as an esthetician at Tricoci University of Beauty. She earned her esthetician’s license in June 2024 and became a waxing specialist. Was there a defining moment that confirmed this was your calling? “I started working at the Waxi Taxi my sophomore year of high school as an intern during the week and working on the weekends. I continued at The Waxi Taxi through high school until I graduated mid-term in 2023. Shortly after graduating, I began my training at Tricoci University in Highland, Indiana. June of 2024, I graduated, received my license, and have been waxing since the day after graduation! A defining moment for me is when a client is so happy after a wax and is so appreciative of the work that I do. I feel very lucky to work in the field that I do, and I am so grateful to be able to service all my wonderful clients.” Outside of your professional life, what hobbies or interests might surprise your clients to learn about you? “Outside of work, a hobby of mine is working out. I enjoy going to the gym with my friends in my free time.” If you weren’t a waxing specialist, what alternative career path might you have pursued? “If I weren’t a waxing specialist, I would definitely pursue a nursing career.” How would your closest friends describe your personality, and how do those traits benefit you as a waxing specialist? “My closest friends would probably say I'm patient, detail-oriented, bubbly, and good at making people feel comfortable. These traits help a lot in my job as a waxing specialist because it's important to be gentle, precise, and create a relaxing and comfortable environment for my clients.” Client Connections What’s the most meaningful client relationship you’ve developed, and how has it impacted your approach to your work? “The most meaningful client relationship I’ve formed is one that started a bit before I got my esthetician’s license. It was my second year interning at the Waxi Taxi, and one of our long-time clients was expecting her second baby and needed a sitter. I have now been watching her girls for two years. This relationship has shown me how much it matters to build those client relationships.” What’s a common client interaction that always makes your day brighter? “A common client interaction that always makes my day brighter is usually when a new client comes in and right away tells me they love the space we have and how they feel so safe and comfortable, even though they are nervous.” What’s the most valuable lesson you’ve learned from a challenging client experience? “The most valuable lesson I've learned from a challenging client experience is that communication is key, and also learning that it’s okay to set boundaries.” What aspect of waxing do you feel most passionate about that clients might not expect? “I’m super passionate about how waxing can really boost someone’s confidence. I love seeing how much better they feel after their wax!” How do your personal values influence how you run your business and interact with clients? “Honesty and empathy are super important to me.
