The most underrated place to wax? Under your arms! When many people consider getting waxed, the underarms are usually the last place they think of. This area is often overlooked, but it is by far one of my personal favorites to wax! While it can be hard to resist shaving this area, we promise the results are worth waiting for. Once you try this service, you’ll understand why we swear by it.
Why Give it a Go?
- No more five o’clock shadow: Waxing your underarms removes hair from the root, making your underarms smooth and hairless. Shaving only removes hair from the surface, leaving behind stubble, which gives the appearance of a five o’clock shadow.
- Less Irritation: Shaving your underarms every day can lead to redness, bumps, and irritation. When getting your underarms waxed, not only will you no longer have to worry about shaving every day, but you will also be irritation-free. Results for underarm waxing can last anywhere from 3-4 weeks, meaning you no longer have to worry about daily irritation or stubble.
- Thinner Regrowth: Underarm hair thins out faster than any other area of your body. This means that after consistently getting your underarms waxed, the hair will grow back thinner and sparser than before.
- Reduces Skin Discoloration: When shaving under your underarms, irritation from using a razor can build up and lead to hyperpigmentation over time, which can lead to discoloration. Waxing under your arms leaves you with a smooth, hairless look.
- Beneficial for those with HS: HS, or hidradenitis suppurativa, is a skin condition affecting the underarms. Waxing is an excellent alternative for those suffering from HS and is generally recommended by health professionals in lieu of shaving.
What You Should Know
- No deodorant: It is important to avoid deodorant before and after your wax. Wearing deodorant to your wax can create a barrier between the wax and your hair, making results less beneficial. It is equally important to avoid deodorant for the remainder of the day after waxing. Wearing deodorant after your wax can lead to redness and irritation.
- Exfoliate one day before: Be sure to exfoliate as you would for any other waxing service one day before.
- Avoid exfoliation after: It is recommended to wait five days after waxing before exfoliating again. After this period, exfoliate daily.
- When to reschedule: A 3-4 week schedule is ideal for underarms; however, up to 6 weeks also works, as long as you don’t mind rocking a little peach fuzz!
Fall is the perfect time to try underarm waxing. By next summer, you’ll enjoy thin, sparse, underarm hair. The smooth results will make you never want to pick up a razor again!
