We have some exciting news at Waxi Taxi! As an avid community partner and trailblazer in Northwest Indiana, our founder, Jeny Burkhart, has taken on yet another leadership role in the community. After being a dedicated member of the Duneland Chamber of Commerce for 1 year, she has officially moved into the position of 2026 Board Secretary. In addition to founding her own business with three locations, Jeny has now stepped into her third Board Secretary position.
What Is The Duneland Chamber Of Commerce?
The Duneland Chamber of Commerce is a local organization dedicated to serving its members and stimulating economic growth in the community. The chamber serves the Duneland community, including Beverly Shores, Burns Harbor, Chesterton, Dune Acres, and Porter. Their mission is to elevate Northwest Indiana as a place to live and work, with over 475 members and more than 100 networking events each year.
Jeny’s Role As Secretary
After being a committed member of the Duneland Chamber of Commerce for the past year, Jeny has now taken on the role of Board Secretary. In addition to administrative duties, serving in this role reflects a commitment to the chamber’s mission of uplifting and celebrating the Duneland community. This is her third secretary position on a board, earning her two most recent titles within the past month.
Leading Beyond Business
Over the past year, Jeny and her staff have showcased their leadership and community involvement by attending several of the chamber’s events. One standout event was “Hatta Girl,” which celebrates women and the many hats they wear as leaders, professionals, and community changemakers. The chamber holds many other events throughout the year, with the goal of strengthening the Duneland community in mind.
Taking on this position as a small business owner is especially significant for Jeny. By serving as board secretary, she will help strengthen the foundation of the chamber while continuing to champion the local businesses, relationships, and people that make Duneland unique.
