Thinking about booking your first wax, but aren’t quite sure what to expect? You’re not alone! If you’re feeling curious, cautious, or even a little nervous, that’s completely normal. Waxing has traditionally been marketed toward women, leaving many men unsure about booking an appointment.
At Waxi Taxi, we pride ourselves on being a judgment-free and inclusive salon that welcomes everyone. We proudly serve people of all ages, backgrounds, body types, and identities. Our salon is a safe space, and is designed to make your first visit feel approachable rather than intimidating. This guide walks you through everything you need to know before your first appointment, so you can show up informed, prepared, and confident.
Why Men Are Choosing To Get Waxed
There are a few key benefits of getting waxed. Waxing offers longer-lasting results than shaving, because the hair is removed from the root rather than the surface. This means your results will last weeks instead of days. Over time, the hair will begin to grow back finer and more evenly, making maintenance easier in the long run.
Other benefits of waxing include easier hygiene, improved athletic performance, a faster self-care routine, and the clean, refined appearance of freshly-waxed skin. Whether you want a clean chest, defined brows, a smooth back, a less scruffy face, or a full Brazilian, it’s an easy, long-lasting option.
Common Areas That Men Get Waxed
Each person is different, but if you’re not sure where to start, these are some of the most popular areas for men:
- Chest
- Back
- Nostril
- Ears
- Brows
- Men’s Briefline
- Men’s Brazilian
Don’t be overwhelmed! Many first-timers start with one area and add more services over time once they get more comfortable.
How To Prepare For Your First Appointment
Preparation makes a big difference in your experience and results.
- Before your appointment, the hair should be roughly the length of a grain of rice, allowing the wax to grip it properly.
- Exfoliating 24-48 hours before your appointment reduces ingrown hairs. Avoid exfoliation on the day of your appointment.
- Arrive at your appointment with clean, dry skin.
- Take an over-the-counter pain reliever 30 minutes before your appointment to reduce discomfort.
- Wear loose clothing to reduce irritation.
What To Expect During Your Appointment
When you arrive at your appointment, your waxer will welcome you and answer any last-minute questions you may have. If you’re worried about privacy, the Waxi Taxi is a boutique salon, which means there will never be more than 2-3 people in the waiting room at a time. Privacy and professionalism are always a priority for our team. You will be positioned comfortably, and only the area being waxed will be exposed. Your waxer will walk you through positions.
The wax will be applied, removed quickly, and repeated until the area is smooth. The specialist will then apply our custom soothing products to the area. Smaller areas typically take 15-30 minutes, while larger or more detailed services may take longer.
Aftercare
- Avoid heat and friction for 24-48 hours.
- Moisturize regularly with a light oil, like grapeseed or coconut oil, not lotion!
- Wear loose clothing for the rest of the day.
- Resume regular exfoliation after around 48 hours.

FAQ
Does Waxing Hurt?
While waxing can be uncomfortable at first, it’s much quicker and more tolerable than most people expect. The sensation also depends on the area being waxed, your pain tolerance, and hair thickness. The discomfort you may experience with waxing decreases with regular appointments. As the hair grows back finer, waxing becomes easier and much less intense. Our waxing specialists are trained professionals and will work efficiently to minimize discomfort.
Is Men’s Waxing Awkward?
The short answer is no. Our waxing specialists are trained professionals who perform these services every day. There’s nothing to feel embarrassed or awkward about! Most first-time clients are surprised at how relaxing the experience is. Waxi Taxi tip: We ask that all of our clients book according to current anatomy to ensure you are with a trained specialist.
How Often Should You Wax?
We recommend scheduling your appointments every 4-6 weeks, depending on hair growth. Keeping a regular schedule leads to better results and a more comfortable experience over time. Avoid shaving in between appointments.
